What is tPA

10 years is a long time to wait for anything to happen.  10 years is the same time 2 1/2 terms of the U.S. Presidency.  10 years ago you doctor could have been Sophomore in High school.  10 years has pasted since the Food and Drug Administration approved the medical administration of Tissue Plasmogen Activator(TPA) for the use of thinning our blood, breaking up the clot that has blocked the blood flow to out brain to help save us from a Stroke.  Mind you a Stroke has 2 forms.  One method of Stroke(Ischemic)is where a clot has partially or fully stopped the flow of blood to the brain.  Ischemic(u−ski−mik) accounts for 80% of all Strokes and can be treated if quickly diagnosed.

TPA, FDA approved 1996

TPA coupled with a sonogram & micro bubbles administration during sonothrombolysis in stroke patient with Middle cerebral artery(MCA) occlusion.  Restoring normal blood flow thus easing the burden on the heart. All this happened in under 30 seconds!

In June 1996, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the use of intravenous tPA for acute ischemic stroke.
